What a busy start to term 2 we have had!
In history we have been finding out all about Florence Nightingale and the children are already experts on her life story. The class role play has been transformed into Florence’s hospital in Scutari complete with her tortoise Jimmy. In Literacy this week we have been using what we have learnt to write recounts of Florence’s life. If you would like to find out more, or take a Florence Nightingale quiz, we have been using this website in class: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/famouspeople/standard/nightingale/index.shtmlouspeople/standard/nightingale/index.shtml If you’re planning a trip to London any time soon there is also a fantastic Florence Nightingale museum http://www.florence-nightingale.co.uk/ which is full of artefacts from her life, including her pet owl Athena!

In numeracy this week we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties. We have had lots of fun creating pictures from 2D shapes as well as sorting them and going on a shape hunt around the school.

Miss Hurley and Miss Granato have been in 1B full time for the past few weeks and have been teaching some fun music lessons on long and short sounds as well as some lessons on working in a team. The children have really enjoyed having them in class and we are looking forward to them joining us in January for a full term.

In the coming weeks we will be learning about light and dark in science. We will also be finding out about the story of Rama and Sita and creating our own dances to tell the story using traditional hand movements.
